The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
